Overview
Lando and Shriv are tasked with infiltrating an abandoned weapons facility on Sullust.
Things don’t go as planned.
Design Goals
Emphasize Lando’s Mechanics
-Thermal Optics and Smoke Grenades
-Environmental smoke and darkened areas are used to emphasize thermal optics.
Play Into Lando’s Improvisational Nature
-The plan keeps changing and things inevitably go wrong.
Humour and Levity
-Objective Prompts carry humourus messages.
-Banter between Lando and Shriv.
-Flaming Gonk Droid.
Level Design
Being a hero mission, the idea was to give players a Lando Power fantasy and allow them to get familiar with his kit. Cache Grab was broken down into a few key beats.
Infiltrate the Facility
-Either sneak through the imperials guarding the entrance, or go loud.
-Troopers placed on low-key patrol routes and narrative actions.
-AT-AT assembly line ride provides a birds eye view of the combat space.
Shut Down the Assembly Line
-Attack the fortified high point, troopers are positioned to defend the control room.
-Blast through the troopers and find the console to shut it down.
-Plenty of environmental smoke was used in this section for Lando’s thermal optics.
-When the plan doesn’t work, Lando and Shriv split up.
-Shriv was scripted to path through a door only he can pass through, exit stage right.
-Enemies are spawned in the direction of a newly opened path to lead the flow.
Override the Pumps
-Reach the pumps and override the lava powering the facility.
-Rotational combat space with perch enemies on a higher central point.
-The override does more than expected and now the facility is self-destructing.
-A new route is opened and aggressive enemies run through highlighting the path.
Escape
-All hell has broken loose and the facilty begins to flood with lava.
-Camera shake, alarms, fires, and fleeing enemies, are used to sell this moment.
-Fleeing enemies move in the direction of travel leading players through the chaos.
-Pass by the “piece de resistance”, a burning Gonk Droid heading for the exit.
-Console fails to work, improvise, shoot it and jump in a last ditch effort to escape.
AT-ST Run
-Loosely inspired by the “Halo Warthog Run”, get into an AT-ST and escape the area.
-Power fantasy, overpowering troopers and turbo lasers.
-Conclusional payoff, not intended to be difficult.
